1: The Flaming Lips - Oczy Mlody (Warner Bros. Records)
The Flaming Lips newest release, Oczy Mlody (Polish for "Eyes of the Young") was released last week. There are sounds here to enjoy in the tradition of the Flaming Lips we know, with new sounds to discover. Not just a collection of singles to throw at the charts, but an album to listen to as a whole.
2: Mickey Hart - Planet Drum (Verve)
This is the 25th anniversary re-release of the Grateful Dead Drummer's side project from 1991. This timeless global percussion project (which won the first ever World Music Grammy) includes three new tracks.
3: Hard Proof - Stinger (Modern Outsider)
This Austin based 10 piece band has been around since 2008, but sound like they could have been playing with Fela Kuti in the 1970's. Brassy, Funky, Groovy.
4: The xx - I See You (Young Turks)
Critics are calling I See You the best album yet from the London group that formed in 2005. Vulnerable voices in a competent musical effort.
5: ACID ARAB - Mucique De France (Crammed Discs)
The music does the name justice: is it World Music? Psychedelic? Middle Eastern? Electronic? Yes.
